There’s a time and a place for selfies, and the best time is summer’s celebratory nights out; you’re dressed up, your hair looks amazing and you’ve managed to get your favourite folk out at the same time.
And the place? If you want to crank up those ‘likes’ (and let’s be honest, we really do), the backdrop is just as important as your pose. Do your memories justice by gathering your pals for drinks, fun and photos at one of our five favourite selfie hotspots in London’s party scene.
Drama Park Lane
Every social media timeline needs a bit of drama, and Drama brings it, with its glamorous decor, a lively woman-only bar team and the celeb-attracting dance floor. Its brightly-coloured sofas and regularly updated wall-art means you’ll never be short of a fresh and interesting background for your snaps. But you’ll probably find us hanging out on the opulent circular bed in the new boudoir area, sipping Cîroc vodka cocktails, posing in front of our mobiles and hashtagging the hell out of it (#WhatsTheDrama).
The vibe at this exclusive member’s club is quintessentially elegant with eccentric British twists, and this includes the loo, where the bright Colefax and Fowler wallpaper provides the perfect backdrop for a stand-out selfie. And there are plenty of other reasons to visit this restaurant-to-nightclub. Have a pre-dinner vodka Martini at the wood-panelled bar and enjoy high-end modern Italian food with a worldly twist before the main floor of the dining room is cleared for dancing to live acts and top DJs.
Another notable nightspot for a celebratory tipple is quirky arts club sketch: a fabulously over-the-top joint where each area is a work of art. From the bubblegum-pink Gallery restaurant to the ultra-modern dome-shaped East Bar, as well as our favourite space (and another excellent selfie spot), The Glade – an enchanted forest with découpage walls inspired by early 20th century stationary. And even the toilets are a regular sight on Instagram feeds – a futuristic display of egg-shaped unisex cubicles that resembles a sci-fi film set rather than a nightclub restroom.
Tape London is the ultimate night out (and selfie-spot) for music lovers, with its trombone-mouth entrance, gramophone-inspired chandelier, real musical instruments and music art and memorabilia, including handwritten Elvis notes and Kurt Cobain’s denim vest. The theme isn’t just a gimmick; there’s even an in-house mini recording studio, and the 250-capacity club room has enjoyed performances from the likes of Rudimental, 50 Cent and Afrojack. Even Justin Bieber has done an impromptu performance.
Cirque le Soir
Outrageous in a good way, there’s plenty to get snap-happy about at this exclusive circus-themed nightspot, from the Zoltar fortune teller in the funfair area to the Moulin Rouge-inspired decor in the main room, where the wild and eclectic entertainment means there’s a good chance you’ll capture a magician, showgirl, drag queen or dwarf in the background. But for the ultimate attention-grabbing selfie, grab your squad and snap yourselves immersed in hundreds of coloured balls in the ball pit so you’ll never forget your summer celebration.
