CARLEY’S JOURNEY WITH PHILIPS: 1 YEAR ON
Have you ever been to an aerobics class and realised as you lifted your arms up that you haven’t waxed or shaved? The panic! I’m really into my fitness – I’m training to do a Tough Mudder in a few weeks – and I work long, busy days, which means I don’t have time for a heavy-duty hair removal routine, based around waxing appointments and regrowth. And trying to shave in the gym showers? Not for me. But, of course I still want to feel and look good, which is why I’ve loved using the Philips Lumea this past year. It’s taken all of that worry away.
Body hair is something I had to consider from a young age. I used to do a lot of dancing and gymnastics, where I would often wear a leotard – so I was really aware of it. Until last year I always thought waxing was my best option, because it lasts a bit longer. But it hurts so much and I hated the waiting game in between. The trouble is, I’ve never been a big beauty follower. I don’t read the popular lifestyle blogs or try out fads – and I’d never even heard of a portable IPL (intense pulsed light) device before last year. But I’m so glad I listened when a friend recommended the Philips Lumea to me.
I got mine a year ago and I remember being genuinely excited the first time I tried it out. I shaved the night before and planned a whole night in around using the device, but actually, it only took about half an hour to do my legs, while I was watching TV. It was totally painless too, which was a surprise because I’d heard from other people that laser treatment hurt. I was so relieved the Philips Lumea IPL device didn’t! I felt a bit of heat, but it’s really nothing.
“ No-one wants to have to think about dealing with their body hair – and I don’t have to any more ”
After only a couple of weeks of using the Philips Lumea, my hair growth slowed down hugely, and in some areas, it wasn’t growing back at all. And the more I used the device, the more that happened. I was training for a 100-mile bike race at the time and it meant one less thing to worry about during my preparations. And now, after nearly a year of using it, I have hardly any body hair to deal with any more. I use it every two months or will do a more thorough session if I’ve got a holiday or big event coming up.
Hair removal is one of those conversations all women have with each other and I really do find myself recommending the Philips Lumea to people – including my work colleague, Sharna, who’s just started using it and is loving it so far. It’s just so convenient. No-one wants to have to think about dealing with their body hair – and I don’t have to any more.
